Carol Schram: Canucks avoid arbitration by signing Jason Richardinson to 3-year contract The Vancouver Canucks and new depth centre Jason Richardinson will not be headed to arbitration next week after agreeing to a three-year contract with a cap hit of $2.65 million per season. That leaves just Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes seeking new deals with the Canucks.

That ‘No Trade’ on JD’s contract is a bit bothersome. Need to be able to turn expiring contracts into future assets.

Thanks Carol.

Strongly disagree with you on your comparable of Heiskanen and Makar.

Sam Girard is more likely a better comparable.
Also, a much better defenseman, Adam Pelech, signed for around 6 million per.

I think it is best for the organization, if they move on from Hughes.

I hadn't heard anything about any trade protection for Cockinson, until now.

I hate throwing stupid money at a player that has played 129 Games

Forget about long term deals, go with bridge deals for both, or just end it and trade them both.

In a heartbeat because, in my mind, they will never meet expectations that come with those contract values.
- bloatedmosquito

That could be the case but close is what the rationale would be. Every team paying top $ for core players have to get the right roster surrounding them on good contracts. As it stands those contracts are pretty good but still leaves the D to prove JB right. Idk like most if that’ll be the case but we have to wait & see where it goes. Currently the F’s are expected to be where we are counting on some major productivity. In goal we should be fine. Overall its the coaches who gotta squeeze out the results.

I’ve no problem with the NTC in Dlcky’s case. Starting with we have no 3C close to making the team. Next 3C’s are difficult to find & the depth they add allowing prospects to develop & when ready to move into the 4C role to develop further when in the show. Lastly he might wave on his terms & his cost is in line or even good as the contract ages.

The real acid test is how he performs & given his skill set he should do fine.

I too agree with you but see it a bit differently. 1st off not a fan of comps generally speaking but Krug is a closer one. Even though he is 30 the 6.5m is more to Hughes style of play & production. He’s smaller like Quinn. Using that 6-8/7m is a good starting point. Anything in the 8-9m range is premature given his D.

What NTC are you talking about ? There is not a NTC.

Drance said there is no trade protection ( meaning no NTC) .

Good value for 3c and can trade him if it doesn't work. #icanread
